Title: Optimizing Tool Qualification Efforts
Abstract:
The ISO 26262 requires to achieve confidence into tools. To gain this there are basically two options: One is to provide measures during development process to detect/avoid errors, the other is to qualify the tools.
The optimization of this qualification efforts has many degrees of freedom, mainly the number of users, and the costs that arise during the process when the potential errors need to be detected/avoided, e.g. by a review or additional check for tool errors. In the talk a cost model is presented that allows to formalize different kind of costs as extensions of the tool classification model. The costs can be assigned as variable or fixed costs to the process measurements. The costs for application of the enriched process can be compared with the corresponding tool qualification costs.
The approach has been successfully applied at Bosch and helped to find an optimal balance between qualification and process measurements of the tool and the priorization of tool qualification steps.
